Here I have the pleasure of coming across a magnificent and very old, French Oak Coffer, which dates back to mid 1700's, brought back for a French chateau that was previously owned by the late Victor Brox. This rare Coffer is very unique, and is overflowing with character and charm, a very sturdy, solid coffer with stunning fielded panels along the side and front upon stile feet.
The French Oak has a beautiful grain and patina and has historic extinct wood worm which has been treated, the oak has also been cleaned and waxed ready to start another exciting journey. The French oak has beautiful miduim golden hues throughout and would suit most places especially a lovely old period farmhouse. This coffer is for someone who prefers old, rustic, original charm over perfection. A small restoration (replaced with a part of oak) is on one corner of the top-lid panel - see pictures but apart from this, it is in original untouched condition and comes with the original working iron hinges, which is rarity to see these days.
Note: this is the heaviest coffer and the largest, I’ve ever come across so please ensure you measure up.
Condition: This substantial oak coffer has had historic wood worm which is now extinct and has also been treated. Parts of the stile feet are worn in places which does not impact on the coffer structurally. Splits here and there in oak which is normally for pieces as old as this coffer, giving an overall appearance of a rustic farmhouse charm. Certainly one of my favs and won’t be here for long.
