Original English Large Hand-carved Coffer

Here we have an extremely long English Oak Coffer dating back to 1600's, this solid and very heavy chest is a rare coffer and not like other typical antique coffers, the thick and heavy oak plank top has an original, substantial oak and bolt mechanism that lifts the heavy top and no iron brackets/hinges have been used like the majority of coffers (which the majority of iron hinges have all been replaced on most coffers today due to wear and age).

This beautiful hand-carved coffer has Iron straps around the corners and has been robustly constructed, with stunning decorative carvings to the front and four fielded panels beneath. A very splendid example of a coffer dating back to the 17th century with a beautiful aged patina which can only be achieved with age, polish and love. The coffer is very long so inside there is a thick oak partition, providing two excellent storage spaces.

Condition Report: This is a structurally solid and sturdy coffer and one of the heaviest I have seen. There are general minor splits knocks, scratches, and wear and tear commensurate with age and use. small signs of historical woodworm that is now extinct - Please see all pictures.


This magnificent piece would look amazing as a statement piece and is an important historical piece and an investment that would certainly be a talking point.
