A distinguished antique Victorian mahogany wind-out extending dining table, dating from circa 1870. Crafted in richly figured mahogany, the table has a softly rounded rectangular top with an elegant moulded edge, a deep frieze and an impressive four-leg base.
The traditional Joseph Fitter patented winding mechanism remains in place, complete with its handle, allowing the table to open to add extension leaves. Its deeply carved and turned baluster legs are full of Victorian character and stand on brass and ceramic castors.
The warm colour and lively grain of the mahogany give the table an exceptional depth and glow. It is both a handsome piece of period furniture and a highly practical dining table, able to adapt for daily use or larger gatherings.
Seating capacity: Comfortably seats 6–8 people when closed and approximately 10 people when fully extended with both leaves in place. The generous 240cm extended length can accommodate up to 12 for occasional larger gatherings.
The piece is offered in good antique condition, with the small signs of age, use and surface wear that contribute to its authenticity and charm.
