Antique Oak Wainscot Chari - Dates 1600s Circa
Height 111 cm x Width: 58 cm x depth 41 cm Seat height 41 cm plus cushion
The Wainscot chair was used only by the master and mistress of the house with everyone else sitting on stools and benches. The presence of arms and the extent of elaboration of carvings found on a Wainscot chair indicates their high status. Originally the Wainscot chair would have had a loose upholstered cushion seat.
The most desirable Wainscot chairs will display fine crestings and 'ears pieces', plentiful and vigorous carvings with a beautiful patina, and this particular Wainscot Chair ticks all the boxes and is a very splendid example.
This Wainscot Oak chair dates back to the 17th century and has a very impressive backrest with intricate and elaborate scrolls, foilage carved detailing with a surrounding arch, and engraved brickwork to top arched foliage, really lovely and intricate detailing. The antique oak wainscot chair has shaped and gently sloping, scrolled open arms with a solid seat, raised upon baluster-turned frontal supports, with straight stretcher supports.
A very fine example of a 17th-century wainscot chair that has wonderful carvings throughout.
Don't mistake this Wainscote chair for a Darker Oak Victorian copy, this English original Wainscot chair has beautiful caramel hues and grain with an aged patina, the frame has been professionally restored throughout the years as you would expect the armrest has had a narrow piece of oak added, as this will get a lot of wear throughout the years and the feet have had minor restoration which has all been professionally done. All restorations you will see in the pictures shown.
A very fine example of a Wainscot Chair structurally solid and sound and ready to continue its life for another few hundred years.
