Original Dower Chest - Circa 1700's

Outstanding 18th-century solid oak Dower chest in original untouched condition.

This special and rare chest is paneled all around, with three shaped field panels surrounded with decorative marquetry inlays to the front which sits above two lower cross-banded drawers, upon original untouched, sturdy bracket feet. The beautiful three-plank top is heavy and opens to reveal spacious storage that retains its original candle box, which is quite a rarity these days for a piece that dates back to the 1700's.

Condition: There are historic knocks, marks, cracks and scratches as is to be expected an item of it age, with a missing oak border on the bottom right (please see pictures) however these only add to its appeal as a very functional original antique.

This stunning dower chest retains the original polish, with a fine warm caramel and chocolate hues and patination; that can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
