A rare 19th-century carved mahogany Daybed/ Window seat, dating to 1880 circa.
An extraordinary antique statement piece, this daybed showcases a solid carved mahogany frame, defined by its commanding presence and lavish neoclassical and zoomorphic ornamentation. The scrolled end supports are adorned with boldly carved lion’s head roundels, with the right-hand armrest that can drop down, providing extra length, raised on bulbous turned bun feet.
The architectural base is clean-lined yet robust, offering a strong visual contrast to the expressive carving at either end.
An extraordinary statement piece, this daybed showcases a solid carved mahogany frame, defined by its commanding presence and lavish neoclassical and zoomorphic ornamentation.
The form is particularly distinctive, combining elements of a daybed, window seat, and chaise longue. The symmetrical scrolled ends create a balanced silhouette, while the low profile and elongated proportions emphasise its use as a lounging piece.
The upholstered cushion is separate and traditionally stuffed with horsehair, retaining its original character. It is finished in a deep off-black corded textile with a tailored, loose cover, adding to its understated elegance.
This is a rare and sculptural piece—both functional and decorative—ideal for a refined interior, whether placed in a hallway, library, or at the foot of a bed. Its unusual design and bold carved detailing make it a true conversation piece.
