Fine Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Sideboard c.1913 Brass Gallery Top Exceptional Quality & Provenance
An exceptionally fine Edwardian inlaid mahogany sideboard dating to circa 1913, of superb quality and presented in remarkably good original condition.
This is a particularly elegant example, constructed in mahogany with beautifully figured veneers and extensive fine inlaid decoration. The serpentine/bowed central section incorporates two substantial drawers, traditionally constructed with thick timber and hand-cut dovetail joints. These are flanked by two cupboards raised upon elegant square tapering legs.
The cupboard interiors provide excellent storage, with a fitted shelf to the left and a particularly charming four-bottle circular wine/bottle holder retained within the opposite cupboard.
The quality continues throughout the piece, from the finely inlaid borders and decorative panels to the handsome original-style brass ring handles and escutcheons. The tall brass gallery above the sideboard is especially attractive and gives the piece a wonderful architectural presence.
Importantly, the sideboard comes with historical provenance, including a purchase receipt dated 30th November 1984, describing it as an Inlaid Mahogany Sideboard and recording a purchase price of £1,650. The original keys are also retained.
A handwritten note accompanying one of the keys records Mustard Bham 1913, which forms part of the history accompanying the piece.
The sideboard remains in exceptional antique condition, particularly considering its age, with only the minor signs of use and age that one would expect from a genuine period piece.
A beautiful and increasingly difficult-to-find example of high-quality Edwardian cabinetmaking, combining practicality, superb craftsmanship and documented provenance.
